>> Eminent Malaya, Kaula Lumpur University Vice- Chancelor Acharya Gowth Jasmok has been selected for the prestigious Dr.Y. Nayudamma Memorial Award for the year 2011, for his contribution to science and technology, according to A.Jagadeesh, Director of Dr Y Nayudamma center for Devolopment Alternatives.
>> Indian President Pratibha Patil presented the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2011 to Sri Lankan industrialist Mano Selvanathan at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi. Mano Selvanathan is one of Sri Lanka’s leading industrialists.
>> Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Hyderabad, bagged the First prize in the ‘Best Suggestor Award’ category at the 21st Inssan National Convention held in Pune .
>> Agricultural scientist K.V.Raman has been awarded as a prestigious Bharat Jyoti.
>> Actor Salman Khan’s blockbuster entertainer ‘Dabangg’ made its presence felt at the Chevrolet Apsara Awards by bagging eight awards in different categories.

>> The Institute of Economic Studies, New Delhi, one of the country’s premier research institutes, has announced the “Udyog Rattan Award” to Vishal Manchala, Founder Director & CEO of Vast Technologies Private Limited. Also the company has been awarded the “Excellence Award” for the year 2010. His Excellency Mr. Korn Dabbransi, former Prime Minister of Thailand presented the award at the seminar on “Indo-Thai Economic cooperation” in Bangkok, Thailand.
>> Film Director Bapu, Poet Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, both were selected “NTR Lalitha Kala Award” for 2010-11 Year. NTR Vignan Trust will give this award.
>> TV actress Swetha Tiwari won the reality show ‘Bigboss-4’ at Lonavana. Swetha received winner’s trophy and 1 crore rupees. She became the first women to win the title of the Big Boss. The others are: Kali 2nd place, Ashmit Patel 3rd place in Big Boss-4.
>> G.V.Vishwanath won the ‘Spellbrain India spelling championship award’ in Hyderabad. He is a tenth standard student of Gitanjali Public School. He has spelled 21 words correctly in two-and-half minutes.
>> Darla Nageswara Rao working in A.P.Govt. Central Press, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad, invented a new concept of Replica art of newspapers. He entered Global World Records. He has entered the Limca Book of World Records in 2006,2008,2009,2010. He replicated newspapers of five Indian languages with the same dimensions and two years later, he repeated the feat in 13 languages, including Arabic and Assamese.
>> The London-bassed Indian writer, Ms Kishwar Desai has won UK’s prestigious Costa First Novel Award 2010 for her book “Witness by Night” which addresses issues like unwanted girl child, gender prejudices and bias and men-woman equality.
>> SAIL Chairman C.S.Verma received “ICWAI’s Icon of the year award” as part of 52nd National Convention of ICWAI in Chennai.
>> Industrial output in November 2010 was slower-than-expected, 2.7 percent from a year earlier, sharply lower than the previous month’s revised annual growth of 11.3 percent, according to government data released.
>> World Bank President Robert B.Zoellick signed a $220-million agreement with the Bihar government for “the Kosi Recovery Project to rebuild areas affected by the 2008 floods”.

>> In a groundbreaking achievement that could help scientists “build” new biological systems, Princeton University (USA) scientists have constructed for the first time artificial proteins that enable the growth of living cells.
>> India’s first indigenously designed and developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) ‘Tejas’, Twenty-seven years after it was conceived, the LCA project progressed further, with Union Defence Minister A.K.Antony handing over the ‘Certficate of Release to Service’ to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal P.V.Naik.
>> Air temperatures of minus 61.2 degrees Celsius were reported in the settlement of Oimyakon in Russia’s republic of Yakutia, known as the cold pole. The record low air temperatures of minus 67.7 degrees Celsius were registered in Oimyakon in 1933. In the 21st century, the lowest temperature was 64.5 degrees below zero. It was registered in 2002
>> The first Partial Solar Eclipse of the year occured on January 4 from 12:10 a.m. to 4:31 p.m. The maximum phase of the eclipse was at 2:21 p.m. The eclipse will be visible in the north-western States.
>> The 98th Indian Science Congress opened at Kattankulathur near Chennai. Dr.Manmohan Singh presented awards of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) to 21 persons. In Three awardees from AP State are Rallapalli Rammurthi, D. Narayana Rao, Allam Appa Rao. Five Nobel laureates-Martine Chalfie, R.Timothy Hunt, Thomas Steitz, Venkata Ramakrishna, and AdaE.Yonath participated in the science congress.
>> The 99th Indian Science Congress will be held in Bhubaneswar from January 3 to 7, 2012.
>> India successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed micro-light Pilotless Target Aircraft ‘Lakshya’ from Test Range at the Gopalapur Air Defence Guided missiles (ADGM) College campus.

>> Oscar-nominated British director Peter Yates died. He was nominated in the best director and best picture categories both for cycling story ‘Breaking Away’ and backstage drama ‘The Dresser’.

>> Senior Make-up-Man, Producer A.Pothuraju died in Chennai . He was a personal make-up-man of Anjalidevi. He was 80 years old.
>> BJP chief Nitin Gadkari released a book, ‘Secrets of RSS’, authored by Ratan Sharda.
>> Prof. K. Yadaqgiri appointed as a Director of Telugu Academy. He was a Kakatiya University Telugu Head of the Department.

>> Indian singer and Composer Suchitra Mitra died of a cardiac ailment on 3 January 2011, in Kolkata. She was also a playback singer and acted in Bengali Films. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1974
>> The Pakistan Punjab’s liberal Governor, Mr. Salman Taseer, was assassinated by his security guard. Iran Prince Ali Raja Pahalavi died at Bostan in USA.
>> Mohiniyattam performer of Kerala enters the Guinness book of records for her 123 hours and 15 minutes long dance marathon. By this Hemalatha broke the record of Vettikotta Yadagiri of Hyderabad.
>> Subhash Lalla, who allegedly had a role in the Adarsh Housing scam, resigned as a member of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission.
>> Rajeev Agarwal assumed charge as the Chief General Manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd,Andhra Pradesh Circle. He succeeded T.N. Sushindra Kumar,Who retired on December 31.
>> Air Marshal N.A.K.Browne assumed charge as Vice-Chief of the Indian Air Force. He succeeded Air Marshal P.K.Barbora, Who retired on 31/12/2010.
>> Famous Poet ‘Padmasri’ Suragali Thimothy Gyanananda died at Kakinada.Central Government conferred him with ‘Padmasri’ on 2001. His famous novel is ‘Amrapali’. He was also awarded Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy Award on 1975.
>> Medical Student Servepalli Skanda Harshita was selected for ‘Journal of Young Investigators’, it belongs to USA. She is a final year MBBS student in Narayana Medical College in Nellore.
>> Sailaja Suman was appointed as new Director of Doordarshan.
