Notification for ICAR’s 15th All India Entrance Examination for Admission to Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree Programmes in AGRI & Allied Sciences at Agricultural Universities for 2010-11.
Agricultural Education plays an important role in the overall development of the country. Considering the importance of Agricultural Education, the University Education Commission, in 1948, recommended the establishment of independent Rural Universities in the country. As a result of this recommendation made under the Chairmanship of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the first State Agricultural University was established in 1960 at Pantnagar on the pattern of the Land Grant Colleges of the United States. Further, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi was the first ICAR agricultural research institute accorded the status of Deemed to be University (DU) by the University Grants Commission. Today, the country has 44 State Agricultural and Veterinary Universities, 1 Central Agricultural University, Imphal, 4 ICAR National Institutes (IARI, IVRI, NDRI and CIFE) with the status of Deemed to be Universities (ICAR–DUs), 4 Central Universities having agricultural faculty (BHU, AMU, Viswa Bharati and Nagaland University) and 1 Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (formerly Allahabad Agricultural Institute) (Deemed-to-be-University) Allahabad (AAI-DU) awarding Master/Ph.D degree in different disciplines of agriculturaland allied sciences. Agricultural education is also imparted in some traditional Universities of the country. Thus, the Indian National Agricultural Education and Research System is one of the largest in the world, training more than 15,000 graduates, 11,000 post-graduates and about 1,000 Ph.Ds annually, in different disciplines of agriculture and allied sciences.
In order to make the National Agricultural Education System more effective, to improve standards of agricultural education and to develop trained manpower to meet the requirementof the 21st century, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research fills 100% seats in Master’s degree programmesin the 4 ICAR-DUs namely, Indian AgriculturalResearch Institute (IARI), Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), and National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), and 25% seats in the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), one Central Agricultural University (CAU-Imphal), four Central Universities having agriculture faculty (BHU, AMU, Visva Bharati and Nagaland Univ.) and AAI-DU, through All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA–PG). The Entrance Examination for the academic session 2010-11 will be conducted at 28 centres spread all over the country to enable a large number of students to seek admission to Master’s degree programmes in different disciplines of Agriculture, Veterinary, Agri. Engineering, Home Science, Fisheries and Allied Sciences. ICAR Junior Research Fellowships for post graduate studies, ICAR-JRF (PGS) will be awarded to the 475 candidates based on merit in this examination as per their merit-rank and seat availability in different disciplines. Candidates qualified for counseling will be considered for allocation of subject and the Agricultural University as per counseling schedule given in this Bulletin at Annexure-X.

NOTE: Candidates are advised to select one major subject group for appearing in the Examination based on the compatibility with their subject area at their graduation level. The sub-subject choices within the major subject group in which he/she has qualified will also be available at the time of counselling
