Established in 1990, originally as the Symbiosis Institute of Journalism & Communication (SIJC), the Institute was renamed in 1999 as the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC) to enable the Institute to go beyond journalism and introduce other media-related programmes in the curriculum in keeping with industry requirements. Going with the times, SIMC has been finally christened Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication.
